Armor-Bearer

There are those who hold a special place.
They are called armor-bearers,
difficult to replace.
Their position is one full of grace.
The helmet covers the head and protects the face.
The breastplate wraps around the heart,
guarding that space.
Shield in hand, just in case.
The boots are ready for the chase.
The job they have not many can do,
purposed and committed through and through.
They are appointed to those whose fight is hard,
who’ve been beaten down, discouraged, and scarred.
The armor-bearer arrives, lifting them up
till their strength is full and so is their cup.
Armor-bearer—a class all their own,
sent by the One who sits on the throne.
If you ever encounter one of these,
extend a blessing, will you please?
Deserving of honor they are,
preferring servant, not superstar.
When the assignment is complete
invisible they become,
like a good soldier
defending his post
till the battle is won.
The inspiration for this poem came from those who have upheld me with their powerful prayers when I needed encouragement and support. Gal 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens.
I am thankful for the armor bearers in my life. This photo was given courtesy of my friend
Nancy Valenzano.
