Knee High By Fourth Of July

The summer came and went

an idea proposed by a fellow gent.

Riding his tractor, he leveled the ground

mission — dig up the fallow ground

rows meticulously formed

seed lovingly planted

surely performed

daily watering, tended to

the tractor guy knew just what to do

sweet yellow corn

soon to be born

and so it was ...

a delicious crop

was not a flop

provided daily

a side dish of corn

with butter atop

This poem is dedicated to our friend Danny who diligently planted, and tended to our corn field. ”As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience. Luke 8:15
