Six Feet Away

From a distant land
a murmur began.
So far away,
to give a damn.
Surprise, surprise
upon these shores,
the unwanted arrives.
Our deepest fear
is where it thrives.
Distancing, and abandoning
the common high fives.
Isolation heeded,
to save everyone’s lives.
A scenic backyard
eight turkeys stand guard.
Unscathed by it all
large and small.
Bobbing their heads
like needles sewing threads.
The unthinkable
must be fixable.
Adopt the practice
called hospitable.
From the measurement decided,
regulations enforced,
must be abided.
The length of a full size bed,
under the covers,
wanting to hide my
sweet head.
Safe and sound my cries bemoan.
Help us dear Lord, make yourself known.
Stop the pestilence, hooray!
Stalking and lurking, just six feet away.
